Whats Up Down South

Programme Information

This programme is about the activities and events that happen in South Wairarapa and the interesting people working to develop and enhance the communities of Featherston, Greytown and Martinborough. What’s Up Down South promotes what is happening around those towns, and reveals that even a quiet town has a vibrant life going on. Each show features interviews with locals presenting dynamic services, performances, workshops and classes, and keeps you up to date with the latest news from this part of our region.

About Me

Hello, I am Marina Lira, a Brazilian living in Featherston. I am a Journalism graduate and during my studies I never thought about working in radio. I was shy, and thought my voice was really strange for the radio. The moment I moved to NZ with my Kiwi partner my life changed completely, and things that were hard to imagine in my past now look very attractive.

I started doing some volunteer work for a few organisations around the Wairarapa and met Michael and Veronika from Arrow FM. That’s when they invited me to do a radio programme about what’s happening in South Wairarapa.

What’s Up Down South is a challenge for me, but it has been a great opportunity to learn more about journalism, my new community and about me. I always get nervous to talk on the microphone, but the opportunity of meeting so many different people and projects is more rewarding.

Hope you guys enjoy and if you have something you want to share with the community let me know!
