Did you know that the year ends this month? Well as far as our funding goes, it does. Should I do a major retrospective, then? Like Greytown having their big Christmas Festival in ‘the bleak midwinter’. Nah, I’ll just do a mini one and save the big hurrah until December.
Ok... well, we’ve made our application to NZ On Air and they seem to still like us so I’m predicting that Life will go on after June 30th. And what’s not to like? You still get to hear from the dynamic and diverse communities of the Wairarapa and it’s a constantly evolving feast. Is that like a progressive dinner? I’m thinking it’s a smorgasbord with elements of pot luck chucked in. And there’s always new faces at the table. Have you seen Maurice yet? No? Click here then. He’s a newcomer from Nederland via Whakatane. And for old friends you can’t go past Dave who’s been keeping it fresh for about 25 years. Click here. Hang on... here too.
We have insatiable appetites though, so if you’re not already dishing it out here we want to know why not. Or better still, whack on an apron and get stuck in. Pop around, pull up a chair and let’s get you started on having your own show at Arrow.
What else? We’ve been mulling with members of the local Emergency Management team to work out what we can do to help in a civil defence situation. Our first action will be to record a series of informational messages to ensure our listeners are well prepared before anything unfortunate happens – flood, earthquake, tsunami, All Black loss. We’re also planning to have a rôle during an emergency itself – in the teeth of the gale, the rising of the waters, the rolling of the maul. We’ve upgraded our electrical systems so that we will stay on air during power cuts and we’re working on ways to get emergency updates on air even if nobody is at the station.
Anything else? Ummm... we did a big spring clean of the server room. And it’s not even Spring! Or is it? Hah, did you think I’d get through a whole editorial without mentioning Climate Change? Not a chance.
